> HAMILTON / ABOUT ME

I am in my third year of teaching mathematics at Canfield High School. For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about mathematics. To me, math is more than a content studied in school - it is a way of thinking. It is my goal for students to develop efficient mathematical thought processes in my classroom. While I realize that few individuals are truly excited about math, it is my expectation that those in my classroom will develop some level of appreciation for the power and beauty of what math can accomplish. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I coach the Speech Team and am interested in developing a Math Club at CHS.

On the personal side, I graduated as a valedictorian from Canfield High School (Class of '01). During my years at CHS, math was my passion. In addition to completing AP Calculus, I qualified for the Ohio High School Invitational Mathematics Olympiad, was the site champion at the OCTM Mathematics Contest, and led our math team to a top-10 finish in a state problem solving competition. As a man on a mission, I continued my education at Youngstown State University, earning a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics Major) and a Bachelor of Science in Education. Fortunately, I was able to accomplish this in four years! At YSU, I was actively involved in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics - I served as webmaster for our math organization, worked as a tutor in the Mathematics Assistance Center, and particiapted in numerous competitions. At "Mathfest" in Providence, RI (August 2004), I received a "Best Talk Award" for a presentation on an interesting property of incircles in triangles. I also earned "Fourth Place" in a national math competition while at Mathfest. Capping my college experience, in May 2005 I was selected as the Student Commencement Speaker at the graduation ceremonies for Youngstown State University.

Throughout my schooling, my mission was to be a math teacher - preferably at CHS. Having landed my "dream job", it is my goal to serve the district and community to the best of my ability. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me so we can work together.

On the hobby end of the spectrum, I enjoy creating and maintaining web pages (obviously), recreational mathematics, following NFL and college football, playing basketball, and occassionally playing video games.
